Apple Valley, CA.- Today, two local hikers collected about 10 bags of 13 gallon trash bags from the off-road of Horseman Center in Apple Valley. As a response about the current condition of this town’s emblematic recreation center.

Kid’s clothing, old toys, beer bottles, soda cans, used books, soda cans,  containers with animal feces and boards with rusty nails were found in the area where people often hike or ride motorcycle bikes.

Cross-country runner, Wessley Lindsay mentioned trash on the road is part of the daily scenery where he exercises:

“It hurts my heart, I mean, this is our environment, this is where all the animals live they have to live with us, the desert is beautiful, but when you hurt it like this it makes it seem see like a junk […] and it’s not.” He exclaimed.

Enrique Duque,  a US Navy veteran, mentioned that “the area is well known, I feel like local law enforcement should at least patrol here and there”, and explained that there’s a need to bring the Town Council’s attention.

Both High-Desert climbers highlighted that what was gathered only represented a portion of the area, and that the objects found risks the safety of visitors and the ecosystem.

Despite the initiative being an emergent response, the residents mentioned the possibility of it evolving onto a larger project, involving the local community: “Don’t be afraid to come do this stuff yourself  too, if you see it.”, stated Duque.

If you see trash and debris piles, you can Submit a complaint through the Town Of Apple Valley website at: applevalley.org/services/code-enforcement/illegal-dumping. You can also call Code Enforcement at (760) 240-7560.
